We Believe

We Grow

Native Michigan genotypes. While a species can be native across a wide geography, a local genotype of that species is adapted to survive in and contribute to its unique, local ecosystem.

For instance, wild lupine in Florida needs to survive very different conditions than wild lupine in Michigan.

So, while online nurseries like Prairie Moon specialize in native plants and sell many species that are native to Michigan, they are not the specific genotypes adapted to our area.

When possible, local genotypes are the best choice for ecosystem health.

We Work

To Serve Community

BirtleBee was founded by a social worker and educator committed to rebuilding the health of our land and people through ecological restoration.

BirtleBee is a partner organization to the Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area serving Jackson County.

To Keep It Local

As a woman-owned small business, BirtleBee seeks out other local, small businesses to supply the services and materials our nursery needs.

To Do Our Part for the Planet

We're committed to reducing waste by reusing plastic pots and using biodegradable wooden plant labels, keeping plastic waste out of landfills.

We Guarantee

That our plants are healthy and in good condition when they leave the nursery. We also guarantee that the plants are correctly identified to species.

Please note: No other guarantee is expressed or implied. If you have any concerns about your purchase, please contact us immediately.
