What We Do
BirtleBee, LLC specializes in native Michigan genotypes. While a species can be native across a wide geography, a local genotype of that species is adapted to survive in and contribute to its unique, local ecosystem. For instance, wild lupine in Florida needs to survive very different conditions than wild lupine in Michigan. So, while online nurseries like Prairie Moon specialize in native plants and sell many species that are native to Michigan, they are not the specific genotypes adapted to our area. When possible, local genotypes are the best choice for ecosystem health.
